Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme
State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Jyotipriya Mallick informed that the government has nominated about 13 lakh farmers under the Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme. So far about 13 lakh farmers have enrolled under this scheme and 72 lakh farmers have registered. Civil Supplies Minister also said that we are trying to approach us to secure paddy for uninterrupted supply of rice for public distribution infrastructure. As soon as this scheme is launched, we will start procurement of paddy by December 2020. The state government will procure 45 quintals of paddy from each farmer after the respective authorities fix the price of paddy. The main objective of starting this scheme is to provide assistance to the farmers doing Kharif and Paddy cultivation in West Bengal. The low demand for paddy has badly affected the prices, which has also led to a fall in the production of paddy. Paddy prices have also seen a fall this season and the prices seem to be going even below the Minimum Support Price (MSP) fixed by the government. - Objective of the Kharif scheme – The government is giving a comfortable route to the farmers so that they can take the harvested crops to the market. The Kharif Scheme will facilitate distribution in the west bengal.
