Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME) is a centrally sponsored scheme, which has been started by the central government in collaboration with various state governments. Through this scheme, small micro food processing units in the unorganized sectors of the food processing industries are formalized. Objectives of PM FME Scheme

The main objective of PM FME Scheme 2024 launched by the Central Government is to formalize the micro units of food processing. Under this scheme, the government provides a credit linked subsidy to micro food processing enterprises, FPOs, self-help groups and cooperatives, with the help of which they upgrade their food processing facilities. The branding and marketing facility will be strengthened through this scheme, which will help in integrating the supply chain. The Ministry of Food Processing Industries is responsible for the smooth implementation of this scheme and a budget of Rs 10,000 crore has been allocated for a period of 5 years for the implementation of the scheme. Expenditure Incurred in Implementing PM FME Scheme

The government will spend Rs 10000 crore over a period of five years for the successful implementation of this scheme. The expenditure incurred for implementing PM FME Scheme 2024 will be divided among the governments in these ratios, like

  • In the ratio of 60:40 between the Central and State Governments.
  • In the ratio of 90:10 with the North Eastern and Himalayan states.
  • The ratio of legislatures with union territories is 60:40.

In addition, 100% will be shared by the Center for other states. This PM FME scheme has been launched in the year as a part of the self-reliant India campaign, and is working by adopting one district one product approach. The scheme will also provide credit-linked subsidy @ 35% on eligible product cost with a ceiling of Rs.10 lakh.

Support to Individual Micro Enterprise

The government is going to provide credit-linked capital subsidy at the rate of 35% on eligible product cost to individual micro food processing units under this scheme. The credit-linked capital subsidy available under PM FME Scheme 2024 will be provided with a maximum limit of Rs 10 lakh per unit. All the beneficiaries are obliged to contribute at least 10% of the project cost under this scheme, and the remaining amount will be provided as a loan from the bank. Apart from this, other facilities such as technical knowledge, skill training and support services will also be provided, so that the capacity building of micro food entrepreneurs will be done. Eligibility Criteria of Individual Micro Enterprises

  • The micro-enterprise should be in operation, and should be engaged in food processing activities.
  • Only one person from the family can take advantage of this PM FME Scheme 2024, and the age of the applicant should be more than 18 years.
  • Applicants must have passed at least 8th class then only he/she will be considered eligible to apply.
  • Only proprietorship or partnership firms will be able to take advantage of PM FME Scheme, and they should have ownership rights of the enterprise.
  • This enterprise must be incorporated, and must consist of at least 10 workers.
  • The cost of land under the scheme should not be included in the cost of the project.
  • Under the PM FME Scheme, the entrepreneur will have to contribute 10% of the project cost himself, and the rest will be available through loan from the bank.
  • The cost of ready built along with a long lease or rental worksheet can be included under project cost for a maximum period of 3 years.
