A new transport system named MSRTC Maharashtra Free Travel Scheme has been announced by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Eknath Shinde through a message on Twitter. This scheme has been started especially for senior citizens. In addition, elderly people will be provided free travel in MSRTC buses as part of this programme. On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day of India, 1.5 lakh senior citizens of Maharashtra state at least 75 years of age will be provided the benefit of this scheme. Benefits of MSRTC Free Bus Travel Scheme
- In Maharashtra, this scheme is being started by the Chief Minister with the goal of providing financial assistance to all the senior residents of the state, this program is based on a previous basic principle.
- In addition to this, under the MSRTC Free Travel Scheme, passengers boarding MSRTC buses will be able to use the free travel service by presenting the necessary identity proof.
- Under this, not all passengers in MSRTC buses will have access to the privileged service, besides traveling in these buses is not accessible at all outside the state borders.
- Under this scheme, passengers in the age group of 65 to 75 years will be eligible to get a 50 percent discount on the price of their bus tickets for certain routes and services provided by MSRTC.

Facts of MSRTC Free Travel Scheme
- According to official sources, citizens wishing to get benefits under this scheme will have to identify documents like Aadhar card, PAN card, driving license, voter card, etc., after which they will be provided the benefit of free travel facility in ST buses.
- Apart from this, MSRTC does not have any special privileges on city buses, under which travel can be done only within the state limits.
- To take advantage of this scheme, the age of 65 to 75 years has been fixed by the state government. People 65 years of age will be provided a 50 percent discount in case of purchase of tickets at select types of facilities operated by MSRT.
- An announcement was made by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, on the occasion of Independence Day, which is celebrated as Amrit Mahotsav this time, during the cabinet meeting on that day, free travel of buses for older citizens.
At present, MSRTC has a fleet of more than 16000 buses and before the onset of the Kovid-19 epidemic, in March 2020, about 6500000 passengers used to travel every day through these buses.
Recently, MSRTC has decided to start about 100 new air-conditioned and pollution-free electric buses on Mumbai-Pune route. All the citizens of the state can get it easily.
