Objective of Odisha Nai Pahal Scheme

The main objective of Odisha Nai Pahal Scheme 2024 launched under the National Health Mission (NHM) is to make the young married couples of Odisha state aware and motivated about the need to adopt both temporary and permanent methods of family planning. Under the Nai Pahal Scheme, a “wedding kit” is provided by the state government to the beneficiary couples, which is an integral part of the scheme. NHM State Mission Director Shalini Pandit (TFR) has informed that despite the low total fertility rate, Odisha is the first state in the country to start such a scheme for family planning.   • Under this scheme, the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) are responsible for allotment of “Shaadi Kits” to be provided to newly married couples, which they will make available to eligible couples in the month of September.
  • According to reliable sources, the “wedding kit” may also include the contact information of local health professionals, ASHA and ANMs as well as a congratulatory letter from the state chief minister.
